Our Beliefs

THE BIBLE

We believe that what the Bible says is the very Word of God. It is inspired by the Holy Spirit and true in everything it says. It is the final authority in all questions of faith and life. “The Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35).  The Scriptures are the inerrant Word of God, meaning they are without error in the original autographs.

GOD

We believe that there is only one God who exists as three distinct persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. There is no God but the God of the Bible.  He is above all and is the sovereign Lord of the universe.  He has created all things out of nothing and sustains all things by His power.

JESUS CHRIST

We believe that Jesus Christ is the incarnate eternal Son of God and the second person of the Holy Trinity. He is fully God and fully man.  The Scriptures say, “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form” (Colossians 2:9).

THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, who inspired the writing of the Bible, who is the sole cause of regeneration, and by whose indwelling presence the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (Jn. 3:3; Rom. 8). The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead and He dwells in the heart of every true believer (Rom. 5:5). The Spirit produces spiritual fruit in the life of every true Christian (Gal. 5:22-23).

MANKIND

We believe that all the descendants of Adam and Eve, with the single exception of Jesus of Nazareth, are helpless sinners (Rom. 3:23). As such we are not able to save ourselves, but need a Savior in order to be acceptable to God (Eph. 2:8-9).

THE CROSS

We believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only Savior for mankind (Jn. 3:16; 14:6; Acts 4:12). In His suffering and death on the cross of Calvary, Jesus paid the penalty for our sins and purchased for His people a place in heaven (Mt. 1:21; Jn.10:11; 1 Peter 2:24).

THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

We believe that the Christian life means leading a godly life in gratitude for the free and unmerited gift which Jesus purchased on the cross. We turn away from sins because we love Christ.  We practice holy living because we love Him. We serve one another because we love Him. And we seek to serve Him well until He returns because we love Him (John 14:15, 21).

HEAVEN AND HELL

We believe that immediately upon death, the souls of all people go to their eternal destination in either heaven or hell (Phil. 1:23; Heb. 9:27). After Christ’s return to earth to judge the living and the dead, the bodies of all people will be raised. The saved will be raised to a glorious life in heaven while the lost will be raised to an eternal misery in hell. “There will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust” (Acts 24:15; see also Rev. 20:11-15).

THE GREAT COMMISSION

We believe it is the calling of the church to strive to pursue the Great Commission that Christ gave to His church to go, make disciples, and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; thus incorporating them into the body of Christ for the glory of God (Mt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Cor. 10:31-33).

CREEDS

We wholeheartedly embrace the doctrines of the Reformation as expressed in the Reformed Westminster Standards.  We believe that the Westminster Confession, along with the Larger and Shorter Catechisms, are accurate descriptions of the essential doctrines of the Christian faith set forth in the Bible, which alone is our final and infallible source of truth. “For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13).
